This is a short, but invaluable checklist of things to think about when looking to create a new business website.
1. Objectives for your site – what business value do you want to be delivered from your site?
2. Calls to action – what do you want people to do when they get to your business website? Call you, make an enquiry, sign up for newsletter etc
3. What is everyone else doing?
Look around (type a few words into Google that you think people would use to find your services – these are your competition!)– find out what other people are doing in your industry and list;
a. What works well and what doesn’t – from a functionality point of view
b. What sites you like and what sites you don’t ... and why – from a design point of view
4. How will you newly created business website integrate to your current marketing activity?
5. What return on investment do you want to make? What budget have you available – what investment do you want to make now and on going? What additional business do you want to generate?
Work out your own ROI based on your average sales and conversion rate. This will give you a payback period for the initial investment on your new business website.
